Houston Award Winning Photographer | Wedding & Portrait Photographers International First Half Competition

Around the same time as PPA’s International Photographic Competition, Wedding and Portrait Photographers International (WPPI) has their First Half Competition. PPA and WPPI are the premier photography associations and both have a highly competitive judging system in place to earn points (merits) toward mastery designations. WPPI’s Honors of Excellence program goal is to encourage excellence in the art of photography, educate photographers and motivate them to be constantly committed to their craft. The First Half Competition is a precursor to The Annual 16×20 Print Competition held each Spring in Las Vegas. WPPI tends to be a little more modern and artistically liberal than the more traditional PPA. Both are held in high regard by all photographic artists and the caliber of award winning artists in both is phenomenal. I’ve attended WPPI’s annual conference for the past two years and spent hours viewing all the truly breath taking images entered for competition.

Since I had already prepared my images for the PPA competition, I decided to see how they would fare with WPPI and use that critique to improve my new entries for the annual competition in 2017. I truly had zero expectations but each image receives notes from the judges and I knew that information could prove very helpful for the future.

I am so honored to announce that two of my images were awarded and I have earned merits toward my Masters designation!
